Search Modifiers

You can use modifiers in your FHIR® API searches to find resources based on the text in the resource attributes. The 1up FHIR Server supports the contains and not modifiers. Both modifiers search for the specified text in the FHIR resource attributes.

The contains modifier returns FHIR resources with attributes that include the specified text.

/Patient?given:contains=eve

This search query returns all Patient resources with a first name that contains the text eve. This could include names such as Eve, Evelyn, Everest.

The not modifier returns FHIR resources with attributes that don’t include the specified text.

/Patient?given:not=Steve

This search query returns all Patient resources that don’t have the first name Steve.
